TECH DEMONSTRATED THE RT SIDE EXHAUST VVT ACTUATOR IS DAMAGED AND THE TIMING CHAIN IS BROKEN. NO OBVIOUS DAMAGE TO PISTONS FROM CONTACT WITH VALVES. UNKNOWN WHEN/HOW CHAIN BROKE. VVT ACTUATOR HAS COME APART AND MAY HAVE CONTACTED BROKEN CHAIN. . ENGINE WOULD NOT HAVE RUN WITH CHAIN BROKEN ON THE RT SIDE. VEHICLE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN DRIVEN IN WITH BROKEN CHAIN. CANNOT SEE ANY OBVIOUS BENT VALVES OR PISTON TO VALVE IMPACT MARKS.THE ENGINE HAS SEVERE LONG TERM OIL LEAKS AND ROAD GRIME BUILD UP. ALTERNATOR/A/C COMPRESSOR AND BELT/TENSIONER ARE COATED ON OIL GRIME FROM LONG TERM LEAKS. POSSIBLE RUN LOW OF THE ENGINE. NO OBVIOUS FAILURE OF THE CAMS/ROCKERS.
NO SLUDGE BUT HEAVY VARNISH.
VEHICLE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN DRIVEN TO THE SHOP WITH THE CURRENT BROKEN/FAILED TIMING CHAIN AND RT BANK EXHAUST VVT ACTUATOR, THIS AND THE ABSENCE OF METAL CONTAMINATION AND NO IMPACTED VALVES INDICATES THIS OCCURRED AFTER THE ENGINE WAS DISASSEMBLED. THE ACTUAL ISSUE CAUSING THE CUSTOMER COMPLAINT IS UNKNOWN
