Failed Components and Extent of Damage
INSPECTOR ARRIVED AND THE TRANS WAS REMOVED WITH THE PARTS IN A BIN. RF STATED THE CONVERTER WAS THE ISSUE. WE CHECKED THE CONVERTER AND IT DID APPEAR LOOSE INTERNALLY WITH THE REMAINING FLUID BLACK WITH METAL CONTAMINATION. RF STATED THE PUMP WAS NOT FAILED. THE FORWARD CLUTCHES WERE BURNT AS WELL AS THE REV CLUTCHES. THE BURNING WAS NOT SEVERE. THERE WAS METAL ON THE MAGNETS AND THE FLUID IN THE PAN WAS IN THE SAME CONDITION AS THE REMAINING IN THE CONVERTER. THERE WAS METAL ON THE VALVE BODY AS WELL. THE SOLENOIDS APPEAR TO HAVE METAL ALSO. THE PUMP GEAR DID NOT FAIL ACCORDING TO BRYAN, THE TECH/OWNER. HE ALSO STATED THERE WAS NO OTHER HARD PART DAMAGE. THERE DID NOT APPEAR TO BE AND RUN LOW OR ABUSE PRESENT FROM WHAT WAS SHOWED. THERE ALSO DIDN'T APPEAR TO BE ANY OVERHEATING IN THE CASE OR ON ANY OF THE COMPONENTS.
THIS WAS A RECENT PURCHASE TO THIS CLIENT. HE STATED A FEW DAYS AFTER THE PURCHASE HE FELT SOMETHING IN THE TRANS. THIS MAY INDICATE THE CONVERTER ISSUE WAS PRESENT AT THE POINT OF SALE GRADUALLY WORSENING AS HE CONTINUED TO DRIVE. THE METAL ON THE MAGNET WOULD INDICATE A LONG TERM CONDITION AS WELL. TF STATED NO CODES BUT DID NOT SCAN THE VEHICLE SO NO HISTORY IF ANY WAS PRESENTED
INTERNAL TORQUE CONVERTER FAILURE CAUSING METAL CONTAMINATION TO THE UNIT, CONTINUED OPERATION RESULTED IN OVERHEATING OF THE CLUTCHES. INITIAL CONVERTER FAILURE WAS IN PROGRESS PRIOR TO CONTRACT BASED ON METAL CONTAMINATION.
