INSPECTOR EXAMINED TRANSMISSION DISASSEMBLED. TECHNICIAN DEMONSTRATED THE MAIN LOSS OF HYDRAULIC PRESSURE FROM WORN GROOVES IN THE CENTER SUPPORT HUB WERE TEFLON RINGS RIDE. INSPECTOR CAN FEEL GROOVES ETCHED IN FOUR SPOTS. TECHNICIAN DEMONSTRATED A NEW HUB ASSEMBLY WHERE THE SURFACE IS SMOOTH SHOWING A POINT OF WEARING TO PRESSURE LOSS. ALL CLUTCH PACK FRICTION MATERIAL IS BURNT AND STEELS HAVE HEAT SPOTS FROM SLIPPING. VALVE BODY HAS METALLIC DUST COATING THE OUTSIDE AND THE SOLENOID PLASTIC HOUSING IS WARPED FROM HEAT DEVELOPMENT DUE TO INTERNAL TRANSMISSION SLIPPING. FLUID CONDITION IS CONSISTENT WITH HEAT BUILDUP FROM SLIPPING AND IS DISCOLORED.
NO BEARING OR BUSHING FAILURE DEMONSTRATED.
TRANSMISSION INTERNAL PRESSURE LOSS FROM HUB GROOVES BYPASSING THE TEFLON RINGS FROM WEAR AND TEAR. CONTINUED OPERATION RESULTED IN OVERHEAT DAMAGE TO THE CLUTCHES AND CONTAMINATION TO THE UNIT. INITIAL WEAR OF THE CENTER SUPPORT WAS IN PROGRESS PRIOR TO 1400 MILES
