Failed Components and Extent of Damage
I CALLED AND VERIFIED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS READY FOR INSPECTION. UPON ARRIVAL THE CONTACT STATED THAT A TECHNICIAN WAS NOT AVAILABLE TO DEMONSTRATE THE FAILURE. I ROAD TESTED THE VEHICLE WITH A SERVICE ADVISOR FOR 3 MILES IN A VACANT PARKING LOT. THE ADVISOR MADE LONG SWEEPING TURNS AND TIGHT TURNS TO THE LEFT AND TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE PERIODICALLY WOULD SHUDDER WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT AND APPLYING GAS AT LOW SPEEDS. DURING THE JUDDER, THE WHOLE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE. THE ADVISOR STATED IT FELT LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM THE CENTER OR REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE JUDDER DID NOT APPEAR TO BE COMING FROM THE REAR END. THE ADVISOR DROVE BACK TO THE RF AND A TECHNICIAN RAISED THE VEHICLE ON A LIFT. NO DEMONSTRATIONS WERE PERFORMED BY A TECHNICIAN. I WAS UNABLE TO VERIFY THE TRANSFER CASE FLUID LEVEL OR CONDITION. VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE TRANSFER CASE FOUND NO SIGNS OF PHYSICAL IMPACT OR ACTIVE FLUID LEAKS. VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE FOUND THAT THE REAR 4WD COUPLING ASSEMBLY ATTACHED TO THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAD BEEN RECENTLY REPLACED WHICH I CONFIRMED WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR. THE ADVISOR STATED THAT IT WAS REPLACED ACCORDING TO A TSB FOR THE SAME CONCERN AT 108469 MILES. THE ADVISOR STATED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE IS BEING RECOMMENDED DUE TO PREVIOUS SIMILAR REPAIRS. NO OTHER DEMONSTRATIONS WERE PERFORMED AT THE TIME OF INSPECTION.
UNDETERMINED CAUSE OF FAILURE AT THIS TIME.
