Failed Components and Extent of Damage
PERFORMED INSPECTION INSIDE THE CAMPER. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY INTERIOR LEAKS COMING FROM THE ROOF.
IN THE MASTER BEDROOM, THE OWNER ALREADY REPLACED A PARTIAL SECTION OF THE PASSENGER SIDE/RIGHT SIDE SUBFLOOR, WHICH I VERIFIED.
THE DRIVER SIDE OR THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SUBFLOOR IS VERY WEAK AND SPONGY WHICH IS AN INDICATION THAT THE SUBFLOOR IS ROTTED UNDERNEATH. THE OWNER LIFTED UP THE MASTER BED, THE SUBFLOOR UNDER THE MASTER BED IS IN THE SAME CONDITION. WITH THE CARPET AND PLACE COULD NOT GET AN ACTUAL VISUAL OF THE FLOORING.
NONE OF THE WALLS OR CEILINGS INSIDE THE CAMPER HAVE EVIDENCE OF WATER INTRUSION OR ANY COMPROMISING DUE TO WATER INTRUSION.
THE OWNER BEGAN TELLING ME ABOUT AN INCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY. HE STATED THAT HE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN A TRACTOR-TRAILER TRUCK BLEW A TIRE, THE TRACTOR-TRAILER TIRE BLEW UNDER THE CAMPER MAKING CONTACT WITH THE CAMPER TAKING OUT THE LEFT FRONT TIRE.
I STATED THAT I WAS NOT THE CLAIM ADJUSTER FOR THIS CLAIM I AM A THIRD-PARTY INSPECTOR LOOKING FOR ANY MECHANICAL FAILURES, OR CAUSES OF FAILURES THAT WOULD CAUSE WATER INTRUSION. HE SHOULD SUPPLY ANY RECEIPTS AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THIS INCIDENT TO HIS INSURANCE AGENT/ CLAIM ADJUSTER.
WHEN LOOKING UNDER THE CAMPER, THERE IS EVIDENCE OF IMPACT IN THE LEFT FRONT CORNER LOWER SECTION. THERE ARE SEVERAL SMALL DINGS ON THE ALUMINUM, AS WELL AS A GOOD SIZE SCUFF ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE COVERING THAT PROTECTS UNDERNEATH THE CAMPER. THIS UNDERLAYMENT/ COVER HAS A GAP THAT IS APPROXIMATELY 3" WHICH IS HANGING DOWN. UNFORTUNATELY, I CANNOT SEE THE SUBFLOOR FROM THAT POSITION.
I OPENED UP THE STORAGE COMPARTMENT ON THE LEFT SIDE IN FRONT OF THE CAMPER. THE SUBFLOOR IS COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT. THIS IS THE SAME LEVEL OF THE MAIN FLOOR/SUBFLOOR OF THE CAMPER. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF LEAKING INSIDE FROM THE SIDES OR THE FRONT OF THE CAMPER WHAT COULD CAUSE WATER INTRUSION INSIDE THE STORAGE AREA. THE ONLY AREA THAT HAS ANY INDICATION WHICH WOULD ALLOW WATER INTRUSION IS UNDER THE CAMPER.
THE OWNER ONLY HAD A 6-FOOT LADDER SO I WAS ONLY ABLE TO GET PICTURES OF THE ROOF FROM THE SIDES OF THE VEHICLE/CAMPER. THE ONLY SEAL AREA THAT SHOWS ANY CRACKING OR DETERIORATION IS AT THE VERY REAR OF THE VEHICLE/CAMPER WHICH IS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE AFFECTED AREA.
OVERALL THE MEMBRANE OF THE ROOF LOOKS IN GOOD CONDITION.
THERE'S NO SEVERE DELAMINATING OF THE SIDING. THERE IS ONE VERY SMALL SECTION APPROXIMATELY 3 INCHES IN DIAMETER APPROXIMATELY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FRONT OF THE LEFT SIDE.
CONSISTENT WITH SOME TYPE OF IMPACT TO THE LEFT FRONT SIDE AND UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE/CAMPER WITH SUBSEQUENT DAMAGE TO THE UNDERLAYMENT ALLOWING A WATER INTRUSION INTO THE SUBFLOOR AREA OF THE CAMPER DUE TO CONTINUOUS OPERATION AND EXPOSURE.
Recommendations for Repair
BRING TO A CERTIFIED FOREST RIVER SERVICE LOCATION TO DISASSEMBLE TO VERIFY THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE, SO A PROPER ESTIMATE COULD BE GIVEN.
